Dog owners paradise

Mawgan Porth, together with Watergate Bay, and the 7 bays west of Padstow are not only known for providing the quintessential stunning English beach coves with sand, cliffs, and surf, but they are also a dog owners paradise.

With the surge in dog ownership in recent years, for those looking to go on holiday with their dog, the north Cornwall coastline particularly west of Padstow is set up to provide you and your four legged friend with the perfect holiday. It’s a dog owners paradise, with long cliff walks, dog friendly beaches, dog friendly pubs and restaurants, and a huge range of accommodation all catering for your family’s dream holiday.

The beaches of Mawgan Porth, and Watergate Bay, Harlyn, Mother Ivey’s, Booby’s, Constantine, Treyarnon and Porthcothan provide that all year round access for dogs and their families. They also offer truly stunning views, sheltered coves, and delightful rockpools, as well as surfing.

A number of restaurants and pubs also welcome dogs including The Falcon Inn in St Mawgan which also has a gorgeous garden, the Cornish Arms offering classic English pub food, and The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay.

The area has a huge range of walks along the coastline including the stunning views over Bedruthan Steps (the beach is currently closed), with a wonderful stop at the National Trust tea room. Trevose Head and its lighthouse is also a must with an incredible viewpoint across the 7 bays. Each of the bays provide great stopping off points for a break, such as Porthcothan Bay stores, or the Youth Hostel at Treyarnon providing treats and drinks.

Inland walks from Porthcothan Bay to the pretty hamlet of Penrose, and further inland the woods behind St Merryn are also worth exploring.

For those wanting a different activity, the Camel Trail is great for cycling and or walking, and for those that want to cycle with their elderly dog, dog cycling crates are also provided.

And just in case you need a local vet whilst you are on holiday there are Penmellyn vets in Padstow, St Merryn, and St Columb and other vets who can provide emergency care.
